Everything that happens in life begins and stops in the heart. It is therefore imperative to know and guard what flows in the heart. The bible says that out of the heart flows the issues of life. What is in your heart? Is it filled with God’s word or demonic schemes? When you begin to seek the Lord, you will most likely not be anxious of the things of life. The cares of this world would never be an option. Many people have, because of the cares of life, dabbled into so many evil.
2 Chronicles 12:13-14, “so king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord”.
You see on this account, the king did not follow the pattern that was laid down for him by his father, King Solomon. He began living recklessly taken decisions that were not in alignment with God’s word. Rather he preferred to seek counsel from his peer group than from God, unlike his great-grand father King David who sought and enquired of the Lord before he made any move.
1 Samuel 30:8, “And David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? Shall I overtake them? And he answered him, pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all”.
Reading through the previous verses of the chapter we just read, one would observe that David was distressed at some point, but he didn’t let depression take charge of him. He still went to seek the face of God even though he had the power as a king to do as he pleased. However, he didn’t because his heart was occupied with the thoughts of God. He couldn’t have done anything else without seeking God’s face or direction.
Mathew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you”.
David and Solomon sought the Lord, to do all that would please him unlike their son Rehoboam, who preferred to seek the counsel of his peers.
In this year of seeking the Lord, determine and condition your heart to actually enquire and seek the face of God in everything you want to do this year. This is because your thoughts may not be God’s desire for you. “For there is a way that seems right to a man but the end thereof is destruction”. Therefore, seek the Lord!
